The aim of this presentation was to qualitatively illustrate the courses of hikikomori from the onset to the recovery, and to compare two distinguished patterns: hikikomori with and without the experiences of “stopped going to school” during school years. Total of 8 cases of our outreach program were utilized, and the analysis showed that cases with “stopped going to school” experiences indicated more anxiety and difficulty to take a step forward to visit other supporting organizations, so that organizations where providing “place making support” is appropriate for them as the first choice rather than “employment support” for their counterpart who do not have any episodes of “stopped going to school.”
