Seven healthy adult male subjects with exercise habits were subjected to a 30-minute nap from 13:30 (30-minute nap condition), a 60-minute nap from 13:00 (60-minute nap condition), a 90-minute nap from 12:30 (90-minute nap condition), and a 90-minute nap from 12:30 in a rested sitting position (control condition) in four conditions (counterbalanced design). The results showed that napping did not improve physical fitness and exercise capacity. On the other hand, we were able to confirm that a 90-minute prophylactic nap may be effective in improving executive function and activating the prefrontal cortex.
