We investigated the actual play experiences of 114 older children (63 boys and 53 girls) attending kindergartens in Tokyo, Japan, and then examined what kind of play experiences were associated with children's mental health. The results suggested that play experiences during the first six months of infancy were one factor that mitigated difficulties in daily life, and that play involving peers, especially play with play and physical activity, may have an impact on mental health.
