A self-administered questionnaire was administered to male and female college freshmen to determine their perceptions and use of health foods and supplements. Exercising men and non-exercising women were the most likely users, with women expecting health foods and primes to provide beauty, health, recovery, and meal replacement functions, whereas men expected them to improve conditioning, increase body size, and improve performance.
