Summary

Acupuncture and moxibustion treatment is thought to be effective in pain management and improving joint range of motion associated with shoulder joint disorders. We report a case of improved shoulder joint range of motion after stimulation of the subscapularis nerve. We gave a patient low-frequency acupuncture stimulation of the subscapularis and periscapularis muscles by stimulation of the subscapularis nerve. After stimulation, the range of motion of the shoulder joint improved. The expansion of external rotation movement of the shoulder joint was thought to be related to stimulation of the subscapularis muscle, which is the internal rotator muscle of the shoulder joint. The results also suggested that low-frequency acupuncture stimulation of the periarticular muscles of the shoulder joint could also improve the shoulder joint range of motion.
