The pathophysiology of superficial and deep fungal infections is known to be controlled by the host inflammatory response. We have investigated the possibility that plant essential oils can be used to improve infection problems and report that they suppress the activation of neutrophils. In order to investigate the effect of plant essential oil on the control of inflammation associated with gastrointestinal infection, we investigated the inhibitory effect on the secretion of the inflammatory cytokine IL-8 when intestinal epithelial cells were stimulated with LPS. When 6 kinds of plant essential oils were used, chamomile oil and lemongrass oil had a strong inhibitory effect at a concentration of 0.001%, followed by geranium oil, lavender oil, and eucalyptus oil, and the inhibitory effect of tea tree oil was low.
