Summary

Physical agents and manual therapy are known to affect autonomic nerve functions such as circulation as well as analgesic and sedative effects, but the mechanisms of these effects are still unclear. In this study, we compared the effects of massage-like stimulation of the abdomen on the blood pressure of rats administered sympathomimetic drugs and those deprived of blood. The results suggested that massage of the abdomen suppressed sympathetic nerve activity.
