Shared Decision Making (SDM) is crucial in renal replacement therapy due to multiple non-curative options. It involves respecting patient views and collaborative discussions with healthcare providers. Clinical engineers, responsible for dialysis machine operation and maintenance, interact with patients regarding equipment. Their understanding of SDM is vital for optimal patient choice and building trust. However, SDM is not currently part of clinical engineering technician training or the national exam. This workshop aims to address this gap. Incorporating SDM into the curriculum, including role-playing scenarios between students acting as engineers and patients, is proposed to improve post-graduation SDM practice and patient understanding.
