Summary

We compared the blood compatibility of two types of dialyzers with different sterilization methods: the high-pressure steam sterilized dialyzer RENAK PS-1.0 (hereafter RENAK) and the gamma-ray sterilized dialyzer APS-11SA (hereafter APS). After 240 minutes, the platelet factor 4 and β-thromboglobulin levels were 402.0±58.0 and 454.3±85.6 ng/dL in the RENAK group, and 550.7±116.7 and 680.7±217.1 ng/dL in the APS group, respectively, showing a tendency for higher values in the latter, although not statistically significant. It was presented that both the high-pressure steam sterilized and gamma-ray sterilized dialyzers exhibited excellent blood compatibility.
