We compared the blood compatibility of two polysulfone membrane dialyzers from different companies with different sterilization methods. The APS-11SA dialyzer (Asahi Kasei Medical Co., Ltd.), sterilized by gamma radiation, and the RENAK PS-1.0 dialyzer (Kawasumi Laboratories, Inc.), sterilized by high-pressure steam, were compared for platelet count after blood circulation. There was no significant difference in platelet count after circulation, and observation with a scanning electron microscope after the experiment showed almost no platelet adhesion in either dialyzer. It was presented in a poster that both dialyzers exhibited excellent antithrombotic properties.
