ISN Frontiers Meetings 2018, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan
Although cellulose triacetate (CTA) dialysis membranes have traditionally been homogeneous, asymmetric CTA dialysis membranes have recently become commercially available. We compared the thrombogenicity of homogeneous and asymmetric CTA membranes by comparing platelet counts after circulation using FB-190UHβ (homogeneous) and FA-190F (asymmetric) (Nipro, Osaka, Japan). There was no significant difference in platelet counts between FB-190UHβ and FA-190F. Scanning electron microscopy of the hollow fiber lumens after the experiment revealed minimal platelet adhesion in both groups. We presented a poster demonstrating that both membranes exhibited excellent biocompatibility. I was responsible for the study design, data collection and analysis, and poster preparation.
