We conducted a lexical decision task using Japanese kanji words in which valence and frequency were manipulated. The results showed marginal effect of interaction was observed. This result support the mobilization-minimization hypothesis, which predicts that valence also influence the reading of Japanese kanji words, and that the effect of negative words varies depending on their frequency.
