Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) are often accompanied by olfactory disturbances from the early stages of the disease. In this paper, we report on the Braak hypothesis, which provides an important basis for positioning olfactory dysfunction in AD as a core symptom.
