This study aims to clarify the elements and structures of the competencies for the certified nurse specialist in critical care nursing (CCNS).Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 CCNSs  in Japan.  As a result, two elements are positioned as core competencies, with another two, positioned as sub-core competencies.
