Summary

Steroid biosynthesis and metabolism of aliphatic xenobiotics in biological systems involve alkane hydroxylation processes which are mediated by the ubiquitous cytochrome P-450. We report here that P-450 model cleaves the 0-0 bond of peroxy
acids heterolytically and the formed active intermediate can efficiently hydroxylate aliphatic hydrocarbons.
