Summary

In recent years, aromatherapy using fragrant plant essential oil has attracted a great deal of attention as an alternative medicine for its effect on infectious diseases. Essential oils have characteristics not found in existing antifungal agents, but their typical ones are volatile. Essential oils can exhibit antifungal effects by diffusing volatile components even if they cannot come into direct contact with fungi. It can also suppress inflammatory symptoms that are clinically problematic in infectious diseases. From these, the effectiveness of essential oils as a new therapeutic method for superficial fungal infections is expected.
