Between December 1996 and December 1997, we investigated the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) of 201 of 286 adult inpatients in Ibaraki Prefectural University of health Sciences Rehabilitation Hospital. Factor analysis revealed a three-dimensional factor structure for inpatients' FIM score on admission.
