This study exploratory examined the effect of assimilation and accommodation of meaning aimed at reducing inference errors on depressive symptoms. The survey subjects were 1,317 people affiliated with a sports university, of which 980 who answered that they were continuing to play were analyzed. The results showed that while inference errors in athletes have a high impact on depressive symptoms, it is possible that depressive symptoms can be reduced through accommodation of meaning. However, accommodation can be dangerous as it can lead to negative understanding and interpretation due to newly obtained information in the process of trying to modify one's own perspective and way of thinking, so it is thought that when providing assistance or intervention, it is necessary to work towards a positive direction.
