Summary

Traditional centrifugal pumps cause blood damage due to frictional heat generated by the impeller shaft contacting the housing. A novel hydrodynamic levitation centrifugal pump eliminates this contact, minimizing thrombus formation and showing promise as a bridge to heart transplantation.
