Clinical engineers play a crucial role in the development of new medical devices and systems. Based on my experience in developing extracorporeal ventricular assist devices (VADs) and portable extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) systems, I will discuss the contributions and perspectives of clinical engineers in this field.
