We conducted an outdoor training course focusing on side volcanoes for elementary school students on the southeastern slope of Mt. The students stayed at the site for about 4.5 hours and were able to observe the characteristics and topography of the distribution of pyroclastic dunes, experience the inside of lava tunnels, and other volcanic-related topics, as well as snow cover cross sections and animal tracks and the primary formation of a crater lake. The poster continued with a description of the pyroclastic dune formation experiment, followed in the second half by a presentation of other hands-on case studies for GeoSciEd IX participants.
